**Job Description**
The Senior Research Assistant 1 will support an NIH-funded human biomarker discovery investigation within a laboratory housed in the School of Nursing. The project aims to develop cell-free RNA-based diagnostic tests for rapid stroke identification in emergency medicine settings. The role involves maintaining a biorepository of human specimens, performing various molecular biology tasks, managing lab supplies and equipment, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position is crucial for executing experimental workflows and maintaining smooth lab operations.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within molecular biology.
• Ability to operate laboratory equipment.
• Strong theoretical and experiential understanding of basic molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid isolation, PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning).
• Experience working with human biofluids (preferred).
• Strong attention to scientific detail and technical problem-solving skills.
• Strong organization skills, including maintaining meticulous, complete, and easily retrievable laboratory records.
• Ability to effectively manage time, multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to maintain a clean laboratory working environment.
• Above-average computing skills and comfort using digital laboratory systems (e.g., remote equipment monitoring, electronic inventory management, electronic laboratory record keeping, cloud-based data storage).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
• Professional and effective verbal and written communication skills, with good interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated and demonstrates a willingness to learn new techniques, procedures, and processes.
• Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students.
• Ability to meet consistent attendance.
• Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face-to-face.
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Biotechnology / Related Scientific Field
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• 6 months of related experience (Bachelor’s degree)
• 1 year of experience (Associate’s degree in an approved biotechnology program)
