**Job Description**
The First-year Research Immersion (FRI) program at Binghamton University is seeking a Research Assistant Professor (Research Educator) for a three-year renewable, full-time position, to commence in January or August 2026. This 10-month, non-tenure track faculty role integrates teaching and research, empowering faculty as educators, mentors, and higher education professionals. The position is specifically for the Microbial Biofilms in Human Health research stream, focusing on guiding first- and second-year students through authentic research experiences, fostering professional skills, and developing the stream’s curriculum. The Research Educator will also maintain and expand their own research program in collaboration with the Binghamton Biofilm Research Center, contributing to an engaging research and education training environment.
**Skills & Abilities**
� Demonstrated expertise in one or more disciplines that align with the Biofilms theme (microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, etc.)
� Advanced experimental design and technical skills aligning with the research stream
� Proficiency with basic microbiology and molecular biology approaches (e.g., cloning, transformation, transfection, tissue culture, microscopy, protein purification, SDS PAGE, DNA electrophoresis)
� Additional expertise in biofilm-specific approaches (e.g., continuous culture biofilm growth, semi-batch biofilm growth, crystal violet attachment assays, flow-cell microscopy, matrix assays) is preferred
� Effective communication skills
� Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and timelines simultaneously with a high degree of organization, accuracy and efficiency
� Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
� Effective professional and organizational skills
� Ability to problem solve, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
� Ability to analyze and organize information and materials for a variety of research projects
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
� Ph.D in microbiology or other related fields (such as molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, immunology, etc.) by August 1, 2026
**Experience**
Other:
� Minimum of two years of teaching experience in higher education (can be as a teaching assistant) (Preferred)
� Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers (Preferred)
� Experience supervising undergraduate and/or graduate teaching assistants (Preferred)
� Experience managing a research laboratory (Preferred)
