**Job Description**
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will conduct research focusing on improving nutritional qualities in crops, specifically pecans and pears, through plant genetics, genomics, metabolomics, ionomics, biofortification, and functional genetics. The project aims to understand the genetic basis of polyphenolic compound production, utilizing expertise in targeted and untargeted metabolomics, analytical chemistry, and statistical analysis. The role involves collaboration with USDA-ARS scientists and the Department of Horticulture at Texas A&M.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Expertise in targeted and untargeted metabolomics
• Analytical chemistry
• Statistical analysis (using R or Python based packages preferred)
• Basic molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis) (Preferred)
• Transcriptomic analysis and coexpression gene network analysis (Preferred)
• Understanding of polyphenol based chemical compounds, pathways, and metabolites (Preferred)
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Collaborative and supportive work ethic
• Highly organized and detail-oriented
• Ability to multi-task and establish effective working relationships
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Plant Biology
• Plant Physiology
• Analytical Chemistry
• Genetics

• Other closely related fields
**Experience**
Experience Required:
• Within 5 years of obtaining a Ph.D. degree
Other:
• Experience with tree nuts or fruits (highly beneficial, experience in other crops considered)
