**Job Description**
This full-time, fixed-term Postdoctoral Research Associate position, funded by the University of Exeter, supports the work of Prof. Francesca Palombo within the Faculty. The successful applicant will be responsible for designing and constructing a microscope that combines Brillouin and Raman spectroscopy, and subsequently applying it to biological samples. Key activities include delivering research outputs through weekly reports, contributions to conferences, and scientific articles.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Ability to present information on research progress and outcomes
• Ability to communicate complex information orally, in writing, and electronically
• Ability to prepare proposals and applications to external bodies
• Skills and knowledge in laser spectroscopy and imaging, ideally in vibrational or acoustic microscopy
• Desirable knowledge of mechanical testing and complementary molecular spectroscopy methods
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Physics
• Optics
• Photonics
• Optical Engineering
Other:
• PhD (or nearing completion) in a relevant field or equivalent qualification/experience
• Sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques
