**Job Description**
This postdoctoral position focuses on expanding protein expression platforms within the eBERlight group at Argonne National Laboratory. The selected candidate will lead the development of new microbial, insect-cell, plant-based, and cell-free expression systems, moving beyond current E. coli and mammalian cell line usage. Responsibilities include optimizing vector constructs, characterizing protein yields and quality, and executing large-scale protein production for structural biology, ligand binding, and enzymatic activity studies. Active involvement in research on specific protein targets and dissemination of findings through publications and presentations are also expected.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following: Fungal protein expression, Insect-cell (baculovirus) expression platforms, Plant-based (in planta) expression systems, Membrane protein production and purification.
• Strong molecular biology skills (cloning, vector design, transformation).
• Protein purification and analysis.
• Quantitative data analysis.
• Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
• Track record (or potential) in writing publications and presenting scientific results.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact with people at all levels both within and outside the laboratory.
• Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
• Preferred: Prior experience with high-throughput or computational protein design/screening techniques.
• Preferred: Background in structural biology (CryoEM/crystallography).
• Preferred: Knowledge of in planta systems (stable or transient expression, agroinfiltration techniques, or engineering of plant chassis).
