**Job Description**
This doctoral position is part of the “Forest function under stress” (FORFUS) doctoral training unit, which aims to address the urgent societal need for science-based management recommendations for forests under increasing pressure. The research focuses on understanding how forest ecosystems respond to climate and human-induced disturbances, specifically by exploring forest resilience and vulnerability. The project integrates diverse research clusters, including below-ground processes, tree and canopy processes, remote sensing observations, and the prediction and valuation of forest functions, to provide a holistic view of forests as complex systems. The candidate will follow the curriculum set out by the Doctoral School in Science and Engineering and engage in activities organized by the FORFUS doctoral training unit.
**Skills & Abilities**
• Strong interest in terrestrial ecosystems modelling, vegetation demography, plant physiology, and climate change.
• Experience in numerical modelling, big data analysis, and plant ecological and physiological processes.
• Enjoy modelling, model-data integration, data analysis and working with HPC.
• Scripting and programming experience are essential.
• Like working in a team, explaining and presenting research ideas and results.
• Fluency in English (and French), both oral and written.
**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Environmental Science
• Forestry
• Civil and Environmental Engineering
• Related discipline in the Geosciences
**Experience**
Other:
• A background in forest engineering, ecohydrology, and/or ecology would be ideal but is not required.
