**Job Description**
Applications are invited for an experienced researcher to join a national study focused on coastal communities and creative health, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The project investigates young people’s mental health and wellbeing, drug and alcohol use, and serious illness/bereavement in Blackpool, Hastings, and Weston-Super-Mare. The primary goals are to generate evidence for improving mental health, enhance the skills of community workers, and create collaborative models across sectors using community assets. The researcher will be crucial in the day-to-day running of the project, including ethics applications, collaboration with partners, data collection (using creative qualitative methods, interviews, focus groups), drafting reports, and preparing papers for publication.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to complete project deliverables on time and to adhere to project deadlines
• Competent IT skills including use of reference management software, Microsoft Office, and qualitative data management software such as NVivo
• Able to work regularly in-person in Hastings and its surrounding areas
• Experienced in using creative qualitative research methods
• Experience in working closely with voluntary sector organisations (VSOs) in Hastings and nearby areas to recruit participants
• Experience of working directly with Local Authorities in the southeast region on topics relating to coastal inequalities and deprivation
• (Desirable) Experience of collaborating with voluntary sector organisations to design and deliver research/training workshops to a range of communities and organisations supporting marginalised populations

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Public Health
• Related discipline (e.g. Public Health Nutrition, Health Promotion)

**Experience**

• Sufficient, up to date breadth or depth of coastal communities and related health and social inequalities impacting communities in the southeast region and specifically Hastings and its surrounding areas
Other:
• (Desirable) Postgraduate qualification/Ph.D. or an equivalent level of professional research experience
• (Desirable) A track record of publications

Part-time / Temporary Duration: Until 2027-01-31 Remote Work: Hybrid Location Requirement: Regular in-person working in Hastings and its surrounding areas will be required. Campus-based at Falmer with remote working flexibility.
