**Job Description**
The Manufacturing Systems Analytics (MSA) group at ORNL seeks Postdoctoral Research Associates to conduct applied machine learning, decision science, and multi-modal sensor research for advanced manufacturing technologies. Selected candidates will work at the Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) to develop new data-driven methodologies, data analytics, and artificial intelligence algorithms for quality assessment and improvement of components fabricated using advanced manufacturing processes, including 3D printing, machining, polymer, and convergent manufacturing systems. This research aims to advance digital manufacturing technologies, focusing on real-time quality control, understanding correlations between manufacturing intent, machine behavior, and part quality, and optimizing manufacturing processes for higher throughput and quality. Researchers will leverage large quantities of data from instrumented systems to create digital twins and drive paradigm shifts in quality assurance for the United States.

**Skills & Abilities**
• Experience in designing and building algorithms for 2D and 3D image understanding
• Demonstrated experience conceiving and executing research and development projects
• Substantial programming skills using Python or modern C/C++
• Experience with machine learning and deep learning libraries
• Experience building AI models in platforms such as TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch
• Experience with cameras, sensors, and real-time data acquisition or control
• Ability to work in a very dynamic team environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

**Qualifications**
Required Degree(s) in:
• Mechanical Engineering
• Material Science
• Electrical Engineering
• Computer Engineering
• Computer Science
• Closely related field

**Experience**
Other:
• Ph.D. completed within the last five years
• Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment
